Dec 07, 2007

Author Dave DeWitt of Albuquerque will be at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum on Dec. 13 to discuss his new book, "Avenging Victorio: A Novel of the Apache Insurgency in New Mexico, 1881."

DeWitt will present a slide show, read from the book and sign copies of the popular new novel. The event is in the museum's theater at 7 p.m. and admission is free.

The book focuses on a group of rag-tag Apache warriors, led by a man in his late 70s, who took on the U.S. Army's 9th Cavalry seeking revenge for the death of the great Apache war chief Victorio. Using guerilla warfare, they led raids throughout New Mexico while evading the Cavalry and the Buffalo Soldiers.

DeWitt, who has written extensively on travel and world history, also is one of the world's foremost authorities on chile peppers and spicy foods. He has written 31 books and is the founder and producer of the National Fiery Foods and Barbecue Show.
