Ghosts of the PastSep 30, 2008 History comes to life each fall at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum, but this year will be a little different.
The Museum's fourth-annual living history event has been moved from early December to late October and the theme and technique have changed. Formerly known as Time Travel by Lantern Light, the event is now called Ghosts of the Past. This three-night event is set for Oct. 23-25. It's the museum's major fall event.
Instead of a time travel theme where visitors go back to visit New Mexicans in their time period, Ghosts of the Past brings the characters from the past to visit us.
Museum visitors are taken on guided tours around the facility to encounter interesting characters from New Mexico's history. There will be indoor tours that begin at 6 p.m. each evening and outdoor tours that begin at 6:45. The last tours will begin at 8:15 each night. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for senior citizens and $1 for children 5 to 17.
Among the characters that visitors will encounter are La Llorona, a woman from Shalam Colony, a school teacher, a Harvey Girl, a train engineer and a cowboy. These historical characters will engage the visitors with their stories. There will be about 10 stations in all and these special tours are suitable for all members of the family.
Also included in the fun will be craft activities and games for kids, refreshments and live music. |
