Food produced in New Mexico is showcased at the fourth-annual “HomeGrown: A New Mexico Food Show & Gift Market” on Nov. 18-19 at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces.
More than 100 growers, companies and individuals from around the state will sell their products as the gift-giving season approaches. The event is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19. Admission is $5 per vehicle and the first 100 vehicles each day receive a free, burlap shopping bag. The bags can also be purchased at the event for $5.
The museum is again partnering with the New Mexico Department of Agriculture and the state's growers to offer great products to buy or sample.
“We are delighted to continue hosting HomeGrown for this, its fourth year,” said Museum Director Mark Santiago. “In partnership with NMDA, we have seen this event turn into a major happening here at the museum and in Las Cruces. It has really expanded. We started off with less than 50 producers and vendors, but this year we will have over 100. This show is really special for the Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum in that it provides a unique opportunity to showcase products grown here in New Mexico and it has a become a favorite for those looking to do some early Christmas or holiday shopping.”
Food items offered for sampling and purchasing include salsas, pies, cookies, meats, sauces, honey, jerky, candy, cheese, beans, pecans, pistachios, and much more. New Mexico crafts and other home-grown New Mexico products are also part of the event, according to Museum Event Coordinator, Rachel Banegas.
Booths will be in four banquet rooms inside the museum’s Bruce King Building. Admission includes all of the regular museum exhibits and activities.
“From salsa to wine, and from jerky to cheese, there will be plenty of New Mexico-made items to purchase at HomeGrown,” said New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture Jeff Witte. “We encourage everyone to get a head start on their holiday shopping at this unique event that exclusively features New Mexico products.”
Four New Mexico wineries will be at the show: Heart of the Desert Wines, La Esperanza Vineyard & Winery, Luna Rossa Winery, and Shattuck Vineyard.
Many of the food companies and producers are members of NMDA’s Taste the Tradition and Grown with Tradition programs.
