SUMMARY:25th Anniversary: Blessing of the Fields
DESCRIPTION:New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum will celebrate an old tradition with the annual Blessing of the Fields procession on Friday (May 16). \n \n\nFrom 10 – 11 a.m.\, the colorful procession around the Museum grounds begins with the blessing the animals\, plants\, and acequia.\nVisitors who come to the Museum to participate in the procession will not be charged admission. Admission will be free until 12 p.m. Plants grown in the Museum’s greenhouse will be for sale.\nThe event begins with the Prayer of the Four Directions\, led by Patrick Narvaez\, Cacique of La Corporacion de los Indigenes de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de Tortugas\, and Tortugas Pueblo.\nLeading the procession will be Most Reverend Peter Baldacchino\, Bishop of the Las Cruces Diocese.\nStudents from Las Cruces Catholic Schools will be among the participants.\nThe San Ysidro bulto (carving) carried during the procession was created by Las Cruces artist Virginia Maria Romero.\n\nThis marks the 25th year that the museum has held this program\, which focuses on a long and rich history. San Ysidro\, the patron saint of farmers\, lived from 1070 to 1130. He worked in the fields for a wealthy landowner and was known for his devotion to God\, his humility\, and his generosity to those less fortunate than him. San Ysidro’s story has been passed down through the generations and still inspires many farmers and their families in the Mesilla Valley. For many years\, workers in San Miguel would make a pilgrimage each May\, stopping at all the villages along the valley. \nNew Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum is located at 4100 Dripping Springs Road in Las Cruces. For more information\, call (575) 522-4100.

SUMMARY:Exhibit Opening: New Mexico AgrAbility
DESCRIPTION:New Mexico AgrAbility sheds light on how farmers and ranchers with disabilities in rural areas overcome challenges to maintain their livelihoods and agricultural production. \nAn opening reception will be held in the Traditions and Legacy galleries on Jan. 23 at 1:00 p.m. Admission to the reception is free\, but regular admission applies to the Museum. \nVisitors can engage with stories about farmers and ranchers who have overcome physical and mental challenges in their pursuit of their agricultural careers. The exhibit features a tractor simulator\, which is an actual cab of a tractor designed for individuals with physical barriers\, fiberglass cows\, and a hoop house to immerse the visitors in what AgrAbility is all about. \nAgrAbility is a U.S. Department of Agriculture program to assist farmers\, food growers\, and farm families who are touched by a disability\, chronic health problem\, or just getting older\, which affects their ability to take part in an agricultural lifestyle. Imagine having a leg prosthesis and trying to drive a farm tractor\, or a bad back and trying to ride a horse to round up cattle. People have overcome those challenges with help from the AgrAbility program. \n\nRead Full Press Release
