The American Plains Artists 32nd Annual Juried Exhibit & Sale opened on Aug. 3, to a very large crowd at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces, NM, where the exhibit and sale will continue through November 5, 2017.

Realistic and representational artworks of the American Great Plains are on exhibit by sixty-one APA members from across the U.S.A. and Canada. Awards Juror Alfredo Rodriguez of Corona, CA, awarded the following: BEST OF SHOW: “Puppy Training” by C. Parenteau, Caledonia, Ontario, Canada ; 1st PLACE AWARD: “The Fitting” by William Schneider, Village of Lakewood, IL; 2nd PLACE AWARD: “Comes in Swingin’” by Don Weller, Oakley, UT; and 3rd PLACE AWARD: “The Book Worms” by David Dorsey, Valentine, NE.

Other awards sponsored by the APA included: CLYDE HERON AWARD: “Dancing With Spirit” by Cliff Barnes, Burbank CA; BEST PLAINS PEOPLE: “Cheyenne Sentinel” by Andrew Knez, Jr, McMurray, PA; BEST PLAINS CHURCH: ” Thanks Lord—Good Rain, Green Grass, Great Horse” by Jack Moss, Llano, TX; NEW MEXICO AWARD: “Tribal Heritage” by Jay Hester Boerne, TX; GOLDEN SPUR AWARD (APA Members Choice): “The Rug Trader” by Mejo Okon, Albuquerque, NM; and the ARROWHEAD AWARD (Hosting Facility’s Choice): “Heavy Weather” by Barron Postmus, West Hills, CA. The Plainsman (People’s Choice) Award will be announced at the end of the show.

PUBLISHER’S AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE were awarded to “Casting Shadows” by Mary Lambeth, Midland, TX–Fine Art Connoisseur, B. Eric Rhoads, Publisher; “Long Shot” by Don Weller, Oakley, UT–Art of the West, Allan Duerr and Tom Tierney, Co-Publishers; “Walls That Talk” by Judy Osburn, Norman, OK–Western Art Collector, “Artist Focus Award”, Vincent W.
