A new activity in the Heritage Cooking program highlights a fun day on Saturday, December 23, at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum.

A campfire might seem like an unlikely place to make Christmas cookies, but let’s do it. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on December 23, visitors can participate in the age-old art of making cookies using a vintage Pizzelle iron from the 1800s. We’ll use traditional cookie cutters, and have all the fixins and decorations ready. Bring your appetite and enjoy a sweet taste of history. Regular Museum admission is required to participate in this special program ($5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens $3 for children 4-17) and free for children 3 and under.

The Selfies with Santa activity is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Also on the schedule for Saturday: blacksmith demonstrations from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and from 1-3 p.m. The milking demonstration at the Dairy Barn is at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Pony rides for children take place from 10:30 to 12 (weather permitting). Regular Museum admission is required for all of the activities and the pony rides are $5 per ride.

Farm & Ranch also features indoor and outdoor play areas for children, tours to see the livestock (including baby calves), and plenty of exhibits. The Museum is open from 9-5 on Saturday, and from 12-5 on Sunday. The Museum will be closed on Christmas Day.
