Cowboy Days (School Day)

Cowboy Days at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum begins with a special day of educational presentations on Friday, March 3.

The Museum welcomes area school children for field trips from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The students will visit about 20 stations around the facility as they learn about cowboy life and more. The Sheep to Shawl program, with shearing demonstrations, takes place most of the day at the Sheep & Goat Barn.

Some of the presenters on March 3 are musicians and storytellers Crow & Karla of Las Cruces, Fort Selden Historic Site, Master Gardeners, Back Country Horsemen, Mesilla Valley Cowbelles, High Noon Leather, City of Las Cruces Museums, Branigan Library, New Mexico Department of Game & Fish, NMSU Cooperative Extension Services, Asombro, Doppler Dave Speelman from KVIA in El Paso, New Mexico Ag in the Classroom, and fiber arts demonstrations by Museum volunteers.

The Western Writers of America will have a presentation called “Writing the West” at 2 p.m. in the Museum’s Theater. Authors participating include Ollie Reed Jr., Natalie Bright and Carol Potenza.

The public is invited to check out the activities, shop at the plant sale, and visit the Museum’s exhibits, and livestock. The Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Regular Museum admission applies on Friday, March 3: $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens, and $3 for children 4 to 17.
