The Mesilla Valley Weavers Guild awarded LuAnn Kilday, the Education Coordinator at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum, its “Recognition of Community Service in the Fiber Arts” award on May 21

The Mesilla Valley Weavers Guild is an organization of artists exploring and promoting all types of fiber arts in Southern New Mexico and West Texas. The Guild periodically recognizes community members whose efforts and achievements foster growth and interest in the textile arts and significantly contribute to the development of new weavers and fiber artists in our region.

The textile arts have a centuries-long tradition and LuAnn’s work helps to continue that heritage, while creating new traditions for beginning textile artists.

LuAnn’s efforts help expose members of our community to the world of textiles through demonstrations and organizing myriad classes and workshops for adults and children. LuAnn teaches many textile courses herself.

These courses include weaving, warping, felting, tapestry, Colcha embroidery, quilting, dyeing, and wool carding and spinning.

The Farm & Ranch Museum is planning a new event that focuses on fiber arts. The first Fiber Fiesta is June 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Demonstrators from throughout the area will be part of the event, and admission is free.
