New Mexico Heritage Short Film Contest

In early 2026, New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Film Contest invited filmmakers to engage in a creative challenge unlike any other. In addition to telling stories rooted in agriculture, ranching, and rural heritage, participants were required to incorporate a designated cultural phrase, which was revealed only at the kickoff event on Wednesday, Jan. 14, to be used word-for-word — into their films. This unexpected element added a shared creative constraint that encouraged originality, ingenuity, and authentic storytelling. Selected films were honored in a museum setting and received the unique opportunity to screen at the Las Cruces International Film Festival, connecting filmmakers with audiences, peers, and industry professionals across New Mexico and beyond. The contest is closed, but stay tuned for future creative opportunities.

Congrats to our winners of the inaugural contest! Read more about them in the official press release
