Special Events
Experience all the Museum has to offer and much, much more. Join us at one the many exciting events held at the Museum throughout the year.
At every large event at the Museum, you will have the opportunity to imagine time traveling to the past and/or a chance to experience how agriculture enriches the present day. Sharing history is an important part of Museum events and programs.
Cowboy Days (March)
Cowboy Days is the Museum’s annual tribute to New Mexico’s ranching traditions. Each year, attendees can learn about the history of ranching and its present-day impact. Our ranching staff shows off our six cattle breeds during the Parade of Breeds and we have live entertainment from music to charrería (Mexican equestrian trick riding) to combine fun and learning.
Blessing of the Fields (May)
Celebrate New Mexico’s rich farming and spiritual traditions by joining the Museum’s procession to bless the fields or enjoying one of the many activities that take place on this day. For 25 years, the Museum has enacted Mesilla Valley traditions of honoring San Ysidro, the patron saint of farmers and laborers. This event is a collaboration between the Museum, Las Cruces Catholic Schools, and Tortugas Pueblo.
HomeGrown (November)
Attendees can expect about 60 vendors, the majority representing a variety of food and beverage companies from around the state, many of which are New Mexico —Taste the Tradition® and Grown with Tradition® members. Each booth will offer locally produced products, such as salsas, nuts, candy, and wine for attendees to sample and purchase. The show also features handmade art and crafts made from agricultural resources.
Farm La La (December)
Experience a fun, festive winter evening at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum. Families can take trolley rides across the bridge and around the lighted, 47-acre campus, take part in fun activities, watch the children ride the ponies, tour the exhibits and galleries, and enjoy hot chocolate, s’mores, and even ice cream. Some of the activities include making marshmallow snowmen and Christmas tree ornaments.
