New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum

The Museum ROCKS! Gem and Mineral Show is returning to Las Cruces for its eleventh year, with 75 vendors displaying gems, rock and mineral samples, and jewelry as they showcase outstanding examples of fossils, minerals in the wild, gemstones and jewelry from around the world.

The event, on Saturday, February 17, and Sunday, February 18, will be held, as it is every year, at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, with ample parking and exhibit space to enjoy the lapidary delights.

Hosted by the Friends of the Museum  and sponsored by Las Cruces photographer and rockhound Frank Parrish, one of the founders of the event, the event brings together fans of geology, paleontology, lapidary, and antique and modern jewelry design and production to buy, barter and trade everything from highly worked gems to samples displayed as nature presented them.

“This event is a great opportunity for people in Southern New Mexico to shop with some of the country’s preeminent dealers in gems and minerals in all shapes and forms,” said Steve Loring, president of the Friends of the Museum. “We’re excited to partner again with Mr.  Parrish, one of Las Cruces’ own who has contributed so greatly to putting this area on the gem and mineralogy map.”

Admission fee covers the show and all Museum exhibits. Riding Herd with Billy the Kid, Home on the Range: From Ranches to Rockets and Beyond the Farm join the Museum’s permanent exhibits, including the Dairy Spot and livestock barns. AgWagon, a weekly Museum offering for kids and their parents, will happen from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday and will focus on a gem and mineral-related activity.

“There’s something for everyone,” Loring said, “so bring the family!”

Proceeds from the event help the Friends of the Museum, a non-profit organization, support the Museum’s educational and livestock programs.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18. Admission is regular Museum admission ($7 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, $5 for children 4 to 17, and free for children 3 and under.)
